Janine's Work Shop
If you asked me if I thought I was artistic…..I would laugh and tell you, “no.” But according to my friends and “fans”, they would tell you different.
As a child, I was always interested in baking and creating. When I was in grade school, I went home for lunch, and would go back to school with “something I just whipped up”….a wreath made with plastic baggies, a brown bag puppet, a hard candy wreath…and the teacher was always impressed. At the age of 11, I won my first baking contest with help from my mother, but she made sure it was my creation. She picked the recipe, and she guided me on how to assemble….. unfortunately, at the expense of her mother’s Dormeyer Stand Mixer…..the spatula just seemed to disappear from my hand and through the beaters. My mother was a little disappointed that the beaters broke, but it was testament to a “job well done.”
Now as an adult, my childhood creativity has become a reality. I have been baking my award-winning dessert for a restaurant in Greenwich, CT for the last 15+ years, and successfully received a copyright on one of my whimsical creations in 1995, and have been selling them directly to specialty stores and the children’s party industry, and to my loyal friends for the last 11 years.
You know what they say about necessity being the mother of invention…..when my husband and I purchased our first house in 1993, my husband was working the second shift which left me with all this free time……free time to create……..”Bloomers, the Everlasting Bloom”, which led to me obtaining a copyright. Boy, did I amaze myself as well as my family, and were they proud.
Years have passed since my first creation, with many more that have followed…..
mermaids, pixies, angels,……and yes, more Bloomers! At times our home, as well as my sewing room, is overflowing with silk flowers, ribbons, roses, and brightly colored felts just waiting to be used in my next creation.
So, take a peek, and see if there is something you just have to have….
I am ready when you are! |
